Rules and Regulations

The rules and regulations for our league are designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball while offering opportunity for individual improvement to each player.  

Playing Time

1. Every player will play at least half of the game (provided they attend the entire game).
2. No child will sit out more than six minutes at a time.
3. Every child will have an opportunity to be in the starting lineup.
4. Coaches are not open to making unfair substitutions or being accused of such.
5. Coaches are free from monitoring playing time for each player.
6. Playing time for all players will virtually even out over the course of the season.

Game Format

1. Referees lead all teams and spectators in prayer at center court before every game.
2. An impartial method will determine which team receives possession first.  In 7th-9th Grade leagues, an opening tip will be held.  In jump ball situations, possessions will alternate.
3. Games consist of two 18-minute halves and an 8-minute halftime.  Each game lasts a little less than an hour.
4. The clock stops every 6 minutes for predetermined substitutions.
5. There will be no timeouts.
6. Possession at the beginning of the other periods will be determined by the possession arrow at the scorer's table.
7. Teams will switch goals at halftime.
8. Scores are not kept in Kindergarten and 1st/2nd grade leagues.
9. No league standings are maintained in any league. Such standings add unnecessary pressure and intensity.
10. Coaches are allowed to walk the sidelines and encourage their players without stepping into the playing area.
11. All coaches will adhere to the substitution rules (see Playing Time).
